Children's Literature Recommendations
Pediatric speech-language pathologists often use children’s literature to build children’s language and literacy skills. Many children enjoy books from a particular series or author. Each story provides opportunities to extend the development of communication, language, and literacy skills. I curated a list of 25 Children’s Literature Series recommendations for use in speech language therapy sessions. Additionally, I curated a list of 25 Multicultural Children’s Literature Recommendations. It is important that children have access to books that represent their race, ethnicity, and culture as well as others too. I recommended
that the books are used by a licensed speech language pathologist, speech language pathology assistant, and at home during extension activities or family literacy time. These book lists provide ideas of books to use strategically during speech/language therapy
sessions or at home with children.
